TRIP SUMMARY

Tour Overview

Tawang Calling: The Himalayan Highway (6 Nights / 7 Days) is an awe-inspiring trans-Himalayan expedition ascending into the mystical heights of western Arunachal Pradesh. Climbing from the Brahmaputra plains into the Eastern Himalayas, this rugged highway traverses mist-filled valleys, thundering waterfalls, ancient Tibetan Buddhist gompas, and high-altitude glacial passes. The expedition starts with a scenic mountain drive from Guwahati through Bhalukpong into Dirang, exploring the 150-year-old stone architecture of Dirang Dzong and Kalachakra Gompa. Cross the snow-fringed Sela Pass at 13,700 feet with its pristine Sela Lake, pay tribute at the Jaswant Garh War Memorial, and witness the roaring 100-meter torrent of Nuranang (Jung) Falls before arriving in Tawang. Immerse yourself in centuries of Tibetan Buddhist devotion at the monumental 400-year-old Tawang Monastery (Galden Namgyal Lhatse) — India’s largest monastery — and Urgelling Monastery, the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama. Venture further to the dizzying 15,200-foot heights of Bum La Pass along the Indo-China frontier and the tranquil shores of Sangetsar (Madhuri) Lake and PT Tso Lake. Descend through the apple orchards and monastic heights of Bomdila, concluding with blessings at Guwahati's ancient Kamakhya Temple.
